Flooding Updates

From the Huntingdon County Emergency Management Agency. We will post updates here as they become available.

*A multi-day rain event is tapering off tonight across central Pennsylvania including Huntingdon County.   Several state roadways and local municipal roadways are closed due to flooding.  Volunteer fire companies have handled and continue to respond to a few water rescues (stranded motorists) and public service calls for flooded basements.  No injuries have been reported and no significant damage has been reported.  The Huntingdon County EMA Office is staffed and may be contacted at 643-6613 or by email:  EOC@huntingdoncounty.net

The Flood Warning continues for

  The Juniata River At Huntingdon.

* At 7 PM Monday the stage was 14.3 feet and rising.

* Flood stage is 12.0 feet.

* Moderate flooding is forecast.

* The river will crest near 14.9 feet around midnight tonight. The

  river will fall below flood stage late evening tomorrow.

* At 14.5 feet…Approximate level of the FEMA 10% Annual Chance

  Flood level (10-year flood).

Three primary roadways into and out of Huntingdon Borough are CLOSED due to flooding. East Penn Street; 4th Street (across railroad crossing; and Penn Street (arch underpass) will remain flooded and CLOSED until midday Tuesday.

The Huntingdon County Courthouse offices will be closed Tuesday. Essential county employees should report for work. In addition the regular weekly commissioners meeting scheduled for Tuesday is cancelled.

The Flood Warning continues for

  The Aughwick Creek At Shirleysburg.

* At 3 PM Monday the stage was 12.7 feet and falling.

* Flood stage is 10.0 feet.

* Moderate flooding is forecast.

* The creek will crest near 12.7 feet by this evening. The creek will

  fall below flood stage by late morning tomorrow.

* At 12.0 feet…Flood waters from Aughwick Creek cover portions of

  Gilbo Road, Aughwick Mills Road and Keystone Road in Shirley

  Township.

The Flood Warning continues for

  The Little Juniata River At Spruce Creek.

* At 3 PM Monday the stage was 11.6 feet and rising.

* Flood stage is 8.0 feet.

* Moderate flooding is forecast.

* The creek will crest near 11.8 feet by this evening. The creek will

  fall below flood stage by afternoon tomorrow.

* At 12.0 feet…Homes on both banks are affected by high water. A

  number of roads are closed.

Huntingdon County state roadway closings:

-Route 22 from the intersection of Route 453 (Birmingham Pike) in Morris Township, Huntingdon County to the intersection of Reservoir Road/Frankstown Road in Frankstown Township, in Blair County

-Route 26 from the intersection of Penn Street to the intersection of Eighth Street in Huntingdon Borough.

-Route 3047 (South Fourth Street) from the intersection of the Shopping Center Entrance Road to the intersection of Pennsylvania Avenue in Smithfield Township.

-Route 4004 (Barree Road) from the intersection of Route 305 (Main Street) in Alexandria Borough to the intersection of Route 305 (Juniata Valley Pike) In Logan Township.

-Route 1017 (Martin Gap Road) from the intersection of Route 26 (Standing Stone Road) to the intersection of Geisler Run Road in Miller Township.

-Route 4009 (Diamond Valley Road/Bethel Road) from the intersection of Route 305 (Shavers Creek Road) in Logan Township to the intersection of Route 305 (Shavers Creek Road) in West Township

-Route 1008 (Myton Road) from the intersection of Route 305 (Shavers Creek Road) to the intersection of Harper Hill Road/Ewing Road in West Township.

-Route 4002 (Diamond Valley Road/Brookside Road) from the intersection of Barree Road to the intersection of Bethel Road in Logan Township.

-Route 4005 (Alexandria Pike) from the intersection of Mardon Lane to the intersection of Shade Lane in Porter Township.

-Route 305 from the intersection of Main Street/Second Street in Alexandria Borough to the intersection of School Lane in Porter Township.

-Route 4006 (Union Furnace Road/Shovel Works Road) from the intersection of Birmingham Pike in Morris Township to the intersection of Spruce Creek Road in Spruce Creek Township.

-Route 994 from the intersection of Waterfall Road in Clay Township to the intersection of Church Street/Hudson Street in Three Springs Borough.

-Route 453 from Water Street to I-99/US 220 North in Blair County.

-Route 3043 (Snyders Run Road) from the intersection of Snyder Run Road in Juniata Township to the intersection of William Penn Highway in Smithfield Township.

 -Route 45 from the intersection of Union Furnace Road in Spruce Creek Township to the intersection of Route 350 (Warriors Path Road) in Franklin Township.

-Route 305 from the intersection of River Road/Allison Road in Porter Township to the intersection of Mountain Road in Logan Township.

-Route 103 from the intersection of Bilger Road to the intersection of Germany Valley Road in Shirley Township.

In addition there are numerous local municipal roadways closed due to flooding.  Please obey Road Closed signs, volunteers and police officers directing traffic!  Turn around, don’t drown.

***Widespread flooding is occurring in a portion of Alexandria Borough and adjacent Porter Township with several basements flooded, no significant structure or other damage is reported.

***Huntiingdon Borough, Alexandria Borough and Porter Township have issued declarations of disaster emergency.

***At this point there are no unmet needs or shelter requirements reported by any municipality.

***Local Emergency Management Coordinators should report weather related conditions or damage to the EMA Office.
