IT’S PRIMARY ELECTION DAY IN PENNSYLVANIA. VOTERS WILL BE SELECTING PARTY NOMINEES FOR THE NOVEMBER 7TH GENERAL ELECTION. ACROSS THE STATE NOMINEES WILL BE SELECTED FOR THE PENNSYLVANIA SUPERIOR, SUPREME AND COMMONWEALTH COURTS. ON THE COUNTY AND LOCAL LEVEL ARE NOMINATIONS FOR COUNTY SHERIFF, MAYORS POSITIONS, BORO COUNCILS, TOWNSHIP SUPERVISORS, SCHOOL BOARDS AND MAGISTERIAL DISTRICT JUDGES. THE POLLS ARE OPEN FROM 7AM TO 8PM.

THE ALTOONA UNEMPLOYMENT CALL CENTER HAD WORKERS BACK ON THE JOB MONDAY, AS THE FIRST OF THE STAFF RETURNED. ANOTHER SET OF WORKERS ARE DUE BACK ON THE JOB NEXT WEEK. A TOTAL OF AROUND 80 WORKERS WILL BE HELPING WITH UNEMPLOYMENT CLAIMS IN THE ALTOONA OFFICE. THE ALTOONA AND SEVERAL OTHER OFFICES WERE CLOSED IN DECEMBER WHEN FUNDING RAN OUT. A TEMPORARY SPENDING PACKAGE HAS THE CENTER BACK IN OPERATION, AT LEAST FOR THE TIME BEING.

A JUDGE HAS DENIED THE APPEAL OF CONVICTED COP KILLER ERIC FREIN. IN THIS FIRST POST SENTENCE APPEAL FREIN’S ATTORNEYS CLAIMED THE TRIAL JUDGE DID NOT ALLOW THE JURY TO CONSIDER MITIGATING CIRCUMSTANCES IN SENTENCING FREIN TO DEATH
