Authorities are searching for the driver of a Scion TC that struck a mailbox on Ferguson Valley Road in Oliver Township.  According to State Police, the vehicle was traveling east when it crossed into the westbound lane and off the shoulder, striking the mailbox between 11:00 pm and midnight Friday.  The Scion continued over a steep embankment before re-entering the roadway heading east.  The operator fled the scene.  The Scion is most likely black or cobalt gray in color with front-end damage.  Anyone with information should contact State Police at 717-320-1010.

 

A bridge on Route 35 in Juniata County reopened yesterday (August 20th). The box culvert spans a tributary of Doyle Run in Beale Township, just south of the village of Nook.  According to PennDOT, the next bridge replacement will be on Route 3013 (Spruce Hill Road), near the Academia/Pomeroy covered bridge. The bridge will be closed beginning August 27th with signs in place notifying drivers of the closure.  The official detour for the Spruce Hill Road job will direct drivers to use Groninger Valley Road (Route 3008), Indian Mound Road (Route 3019), and Tuscarora Valley Road (Route 75).  Drivers familiar with the area may choose alternate routes.  A third and final replacement will be Route 3021 adjacent to Tuscarora Creek. The closure date will most likely be September 10th.

 

Representative Adam Harris (R-Franklin/Juniata/Mifflin) will be offering veterans affairs outreach in Lewistown tomorrow.  An accredited field service officer from the American Legion Department of Pennsylvania will be available to assist veterans with a variety of issues.  Hours are from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, Wednesday (August 22nd), at Harris’ district office at 3 Monument Square in Lewistown.  Appointments are necessary.  To schedule, call 717-242-0423.

 

Tractor Supply Company in Lewistown is hosting pet adoptions and a pet supplies drive this weekend as part of its month-long “Out Here With Animals,” event.  “One Dog At A Time” will be on hand.  There will be a cookout, bake sale, and fresh lemonade.  “Out Here With Animals” is Saturday (August 25th) from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm at Tractor Supply on Route 22 – 522 in Lewistown.
