Pennsylvanians will head to the polls to determine several important races for national and statewide offices today.  In the Commonwealth gubernatorial race, incumbent Democrat Tom Wolf squares off against Republican challenger Scott Wagner.  In our region, the State Senate seat in the 34th District is up for grabs, along with State House seats in the 81st, 82nd, and 171st Districts.  Voters will also select a U.S. Congressman from the 12th District, and a U.S. Senator.

 

A Centre County man has been charged with raping a child dating back seven years.  According to State Police, 28-year-old Nathan Smith of Bellefonte had several sexual encounters with an 8-year-old girl in Granville Township, Mifflin County starting in June, 2011.  Charges were filed through District Court.  Smith was placed in the Mifflin County Correctional Facility.  Another investigation involving the sexual abuse of children is being conducted by State Police in Juniata County.  That incident occurred between January and April, 2017 in Fermanagh Township.  Police have two suspects in the rape of an 11-year-old girl in Wayne Township between June and September of last year.  The incident took place on Ferguson Valley Road.

 

Authorities are searching for a man who attempted to burglarize a Huntingdon County home Monday afternoon.  According to State Police, the suspect entered a Main Street home in Mill Creek at about 1:00 pm yesterday.  Once inside, he engaged in a physical altercation with a female victim.  The man was wearing a black hoodie, gray pants, a camo face mask, and black gloves and sneakers.  He is about 6-1, with a muscular build, and possibly tan skin.  If you have information relating to this case, call State Police at Huntingdon at 814-627-3161.

 

Mifflin County’s Veterans Parade will be Thursday (November 8th) in Lewistown.   The parade will form at Elizabeth Street at 6:30 pm.  Applications are available online at www.mifflinco.org or the Veterans Affairs Office.  The Annual Juniata County Veterans Day Parade will be held on Saturday (November 10th) in Thompsontown.   The Parade will start at 12:00 Noon beginning at the Armstrong factory and ending in the vicinity of the corner Deli.  Veterans needing transportation should contact or text Commander John Monteleone at 717-513-3317.
