Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf won another term in office yesterday, defeating Republican challenger Scott Wagner.  U.S. Senator Bob Casey also won re-election against Republican Lou Barletta.  In the U.S. House, Republican Congressman Tom Marino held off the challenge of Democrat Marc Friedenberg.  State Senator Jake Corman will return to Harrisburg for another 4-year term, defeating Democrat Ezra Nanes.  In the State House, Representative Kerry Benninghoff won re-election over Democrat Erin McCracken in the 171st District.  Incument Rich Irvin won another two-year-term in the 81st District over Democrat Rick Rogers and Libertarian Joe Soloski.  Republican John Hershey defeated Independent Elizabeth Book in Pennsylvania’s 82nd District.  As a result of Tuesday’s election returns, Republicans retained a solid majority in the State House of Representatives.

 

Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro has announced criminal charges against 60 PA residents following investigations by the Attorney General’s Insurance Fraud Section.  Twenty-three people were charged in Eastern Pennsylvania, ten in Central PA, and twenty-seven in the Western part of the Commonwealth.  The charges are the result of a statewide sweep conducted in September and October.

 

The winners of District 2’s “Paint the Plow” contest have been announced by PennDOT.  In the Southern area, which includes Mifflin and Juniata counties, East Juniata High School won “Fan Favorite” with 266 likes on the PennDOT Facebook page.  EJ was also selected in the “Judges” category.   DuBois Central Catholic was named the overall “Fan Favorite” in District 2.  A panel of judges selected Bellefonte High School as the overall winner of that contest.   The plows will be mounted to a truck that services the area of the respective school district during the winter season.

 

A McAlisterville woman is the victim of another online scam.  On October 23rd, the woman was tricked into sending $4,800 worth of Amazon and ITunes gift cards via the “Google Hangouts” phone application.
