October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  The Women’s Imaging Center of J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital in Huntingdon is offering several programs in recognition, including a free gift for every mammography patient in the month of October; Mammography Screening Day is Saturday, October 20th; and “Pink Power Paint Night” is October 25th.  Throughout the month, J.C. Blair’s Breast Health Coordinator, Penny Shope, will be presenting educational programs to various groups throughout Huntingdon County.  For more information about any of the Breast Cancer Awareness Month events, call (814) 643-8548.

U.S. Representative Glenn Thompson has been appointed to the National Council on the Arts, which advises the National Endowment for the Arts on its grant programs and other priorities.  The National Endowment for the Arts plays a fundamental role in creating opportunities for citizens to partake in the arts and culture.  Representative Thompson is one of three Members of Congress currently serving on the council — the others are Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) and Representative Chellie Pingree (D-ME).
