Fire and emergency response organizations serving the 171st Legislative District have been awarded nearly $186,000 ($185,881.62) in state grant funding, according to Representative Kerry Benninghoff (R-Centre/Mifflin). The grant program was created by the State Legislature and administered by the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency, and Office of the State Fire Commissioner. Funds were allocated to the Belleville Fire Company ($12,667.25), Big Valley Ambulance Club ($7,155.22), Decatur Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 ($11,677.66), and Milroy Hose Company 1 ($11,000 – $7,155.22 Milroy Hose Company 1 Emergency Medical Services) in Mifflin County, as well as several emergency units in Centre County. All grant funding comes from the proceeds from slot machine gaming.
State Police responded to an incident in Decatur Township, Mifflin County on St. Patrick’s Day. According to the report, 37-year-old Jared Henry of McClure was arrested for intentionally ramming another auto with his vehicle while suspected of DUI. The incident took place early Sunday morning at the intersection of Shindle Mountain Road and Back Maitland Road.
The State Police Fire Marshall has concluded the investigation into a structure fire last month in Juniata County. The fire on Half Moon Road in Spruce Hill Township February 22nd was determined to be accidental in nature.
The Mifflin County Solid Waste Authority will be closed Thursday, March 28th through Saturday, March 30th. Due to the closing, changes have been made to next week’s refuse schedule in the Borough of Lewistown. Monday and Tuesday routes will be picked up on Monday (March 25th). Wednesday and Thursday routes will be picked up on Tuesday (March 26th). Friday’s route will be picked up on Wednesday (March 27th). There will be no changes to the recycling schedule. The American Red Cross will be in Mifflin County for a blood drive today. The bloodmobile will be at the Reedsville Fire Company on Firehouse Boulevard from 1:30 pm to 7:00 pm.
