Join the 28th Division of the Pennsylvania National Guard as it remembers the service and sacrifice of Commonwealth citizen-soldiers through two World Wars and peace-keeping missions at the National Shrine on the grounds of the PA Military Museum. “A Celebration of Service: Honoring Pennsylvania Veterans” will be Sunday (May 19th) beginning at 12:30 pm. Activities include a concert, pass-in-review parade, distinguished speakers and equipment displays. The Pennsylvania Military Museum is located on Boal Avenue in Boalsburg, three miles east of State College.
With Memorial Day weekend, the unofficial start of the summer travel season, less than two weeks away, the Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) and Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) encourage drivers to be safe on the roads. The agencies will work with municipal police departments and other safety partners across the commonwealth to participate in the national “Click It or Ticket” seat belt enforcement and education initiative now through June 2nd. Pennsylvania law requires any occupant younger than 18 to buckle up when riding in a vehicle, as well as drivers and front-seat passengers. Children under the age of two must be secured in a rear-facing car seat, and children under the age of four must be restrained in an approved child safety seat. Children must ride in a booster seat until their eighth birthday.
State Police will conduct free car seat checks Monday (May 20th) from 3:30 to 7:30 pm at Newport Family Practice, 52 Red Hill Court in Newport. Appointments are not necessary. For more information, call 717-567-3110.
