Saturday’s “Dancing With the Stars” helped the United Way of Mifflin-Juniata top its yearly goal for the first time in roughly 10 years. Dancers for the event brought in more than $16,500 ($16,584.30) through donations. The team of Will Campbell and Christina Calkins-Mazur won both the Judge’s and People’s Choice awards.
Work to repair a bridge along Route 3023 (Pumping Station Road) in Juniata County is scheduled to start today (May 20th). The bridge spans a creek in Lack Township. As work begins, the bridge will be closed, and a detour will be in place. The detour will use Pumping Station Road (Route 3023), Berry Ridge Road (Route 3025), Campbell Hollow Road (T-304), and Route 75. PennDOT expects the bridge to re-open to traffic in late August. This is the first of three bridges to be repaired by the contractor. The other bridges are located on Route 3002 (William Penn Highway), and Route 35 (South Main Street) in Mifflintown. The Route 3002 bridge is scheduled for repairs this year. The Mifflintown bridge will be repaired in 2020.
Authorities are investigating the reported neglect of an elderly Tyrone woman. According to State Police, the 96-year-old victim was under the care of individuals who physically and mentally abused her. The alleged neglect took place between April 2018 and February 2019 on Pennington Road in Warriors Mark Township, Huntingdon County.
